Great drawing book!

This book is fantastic for the up and coming artist in your family, especially if they love Pokemon and all the characters. I bought this book for my daughter and she loves it!! She is quite the artist and has learned to draw all her favorite Pokemon characters all by freehand and they look fantastic!
If you have a child who likes to draw and likes Pokemon then you can't go wrong with this book!

A good book to help you learn how to draw Pokemon

This book shows how to draw twenty-seven new Pokemon that were not included in How to Draw Pokemon (which was also written by Ron Zalme). The Pokemon included in this book are: Cleffa, Hoothoot, Marill, Togepi, Elekid, Quagsire, Chikorita, Sentret, Hoppip, Cyndaquil, Ledyba, Mareep, Bellossom, Quilava, Bayleef, Gligar, Snubbull, Totodile, Croconaw, Slowking, Meganium, Typhlosion, Scizor, Donphan, Ho-oh, Feraligatr, and Lugia.

For each Pokemon, three steps are illustrated and explained to help the reader draw the character. The first step shows the basic steps needed to draw the Pokemon, and also labels the order that the various lines and shapes need to be drawn in. The second step shows how to add some details to the Pokemon. The final step shows the finishing touches the reader needs to make to their drawing in order to have the completed character. And if a reader has too many problems drawing the character correctly, they can trace the drawing of the Pokemon that shows up in the third step. The last page of the book encourages the reader to keep practicing.

The book is written in such a way that it's aimed at children, and the text is easy for children to understand and follow. However, that doesn't mean adults should shy away from using this book. I also appreciate that in this book, the author labels the order the lines and shapes need to drawn for the first step of each Pokemon. This detail makes this book an improvement over How to Draw Pokemon. I also appreciate the encouraging tone the author uses in the text; this tone is especially helpful for children who may have trouble with drawing.

This book is helpful to anyone, whether young or old, to learn how to draw some of the Pokemon characters. If you're interested in learning how to draw some of the Pokemon characters, then this book would be very helpful.

Nice Item For Pokemon Fans

I bought this for my 8 year old who is a pokemon fan. He loves sitting with the book and some paper and trying to draw the characters on his own. It's a nice break from video games.

Characters? Bad. Story? Good.

Decent novel. The characters aren't particularly likable (has "Michaels" ever even met a woman from Arkansas?) and there are a few technical mistakes involving which missiles are which, but the story is intriguing enough to make up for that. It has no ties to the game of the same name aside from a vaguely similar plot, but, unlike the game, the novel actually involves the program the franchise is named for. Plenty of action, suspense, surprises, some wonderful dogfights, and a clear setup for a sequel make this a must-read for anyone who's been keeping up with the other Ubisoft/Clancy franchises the mysterious pseudonym "Michaels" has been novelizing.

Greatt Dogfights, Poor Drama

Overall this was a decent book. Not the best, but good enough to keep my interest engaged. However, all of the characters in this story are very shallow. Relationships are seemingly focused only on lust and sex. And the time in between many of the scenes in this book jump ahead suddenly and unexpectedly. The best thing about the story were the detailed dogfights that take place up in the air between advanced aviation aircraft. I envisioned the flight scenes from the movie, "Top Gun" throughout this storyline as good pilot takes on bad pilot.

If you like a book with a fast read, shallow characters, and lots of adventure, then this book is good for you. Otherwise, save your money and stick with a real Tom Clancy novel instead.

HAWX is a misfire

HAWX is awful.

I'd read David Michaels' (A.K.A. Grant Blackwood) Ghost Recon and liked it enough to try more. It wasn't great, but for a book based on a game franchise, it did what I wanted. It was fast moving and the combat was very well done. When I heard Blackwood wrote novelizations of HAWX and EndWar, I picked them up. I decided to try HAWX first because, well, because I liked the cover better.

HAWX sounds promising: Former hot shot Air Force fighter pilot Troy Leonsch (I know, I couldn't pronounce it either. I called him 'Troy Lunch') signs up with private military contractor Firehawk and gets the action he misses and a hefty paycheck. But are PMCs a good idea? Troy isn't so sure. When the CIA asks Troy to help investigate Firehawk, he does.

Sounds great! But the book is full of problems. HAWX is very slow moving and even though it has a promising set-up, the book that was written feels padded and dull. For one thing, Firehawk doesn't appear until around page 150. The CIA? They don't show up until half way through the book. The action that carried Ghost Recon is here as well, but there is very little of it and it isn't really tied in to the story.

The rest of the book is made up of cheesy soap opera elements in Troy's romantic life. I mentioned that I enjoyed Ghost Recon. One thing that I had problems with was the characterizations, which were poor. I accepted them in that book because they came in small doses. In HAWX, about half of the book is made up of Troy's personal life.

Also, even though Blackwood writes in a very easy to read style which works for the books he is writing, here he tended to over-explain even simple things. I felt like he was talking down to me. At one point, he quotes Buzz Aldrin, and then explains who Buzz Aldrin is. Buzz Aldrin!

Finally, the third act is hare-brained and absurd. The idea of a PMC pulling off a coup against the U.S. is interesting, but here it is handled in such a half-baked manner I wondered if the author understood the way the government works. The plot point used to remove the President never takes into account that there is a Vice President or the Speaker of the House. I'm willing to accept some ridiculous stuff in my fiction, but please make it plausible.

As I read through the book I realized I didn't care about any of the characters or where the story was going. I finished the book only due to stupid, grim determination. Towards the end, I was angry at myself for sticking with the book, but I did.

Please understand that I'm not expecting Tolstoy when I read a book based on a Tom Clancy video game. I do expect a book that is fast paced, pulpy fun. The author of this book has proved he's up to the task in previous books. I will give EndWar a chance. Ghost Recon was enjoyable enough for me to give him a third try. But HAWX is a failure of a book in every way.

Second, he writes about the impact of government and politics on the policy process in creating change, or more often holding on to the status quo. The third section describes the broader influences of polciy making, and articulates that policy making by "The People" is often an up-hill battle. In the fourth section Lindblom offers advice how to improve the policy process.
I believe this is an excellent primer on the topic because it simplifies a very difficult process, and creates a broad understanding, which a reader may use as a basis to delve further into policy-making.
Lindblom's work is very reader-friendly. It is short, to the point, and easy to read.

policy-making as a political counteraction

This book makes a comparison between effectiveness of analysis and play of power in making public policy. In this book, the author raises the hand of the play of power because he thinks that the most objective analysis also must be influenced by the opinion, selection and personality of policy analysis professionals. I agree. I believe that the human being is not the God. If there are socialists or analysis professionals say that they have perfect analysis, I regard them as ambitious people being eager to control and suppress the public under so-called the flag of truth. Therefore we have to find other ways in order to explain the policy making process. The author finds the way in the political counteraction among interests who are affected by the policy. He named this situation as the play of power. In this rule, they ultimately enjoyed the policy favoring them as everyone takes an effort to effect particular policy. He also argues that the inequality in the play of power is natural. Because there are many differences-for instance, organization, manpower, available money, accessibility to the policy-making process, etc-among social groups. Generally these differences are under hand of the elite and constantly are reproduced and reinforced by educational condition, wealth and socialization. Also he criticizes contradiction of the voting process. The reason is that there are many policies but voters have only one vote. He says, therefore voters are naturally excluded in the policy-making process. In this book, Lindblem shows his insight into policy-making process. Although he emphasizes the political counteraction in the policy-making process, he does not ignore the effectiveness. What he really emphasizes is the harmony between analytical and political approach. When we look at the policy-making through this harmony between two opinions, we will reach the real understanding of one. But he leaves difficult problem to us. That is a solution about overcoming the inequality in the policy-making.

Loved the book

Loved the book! Just finished it this morning. The character development was very well done. I loved Olivia and her struggles to communicate with others in a normal, and I might say loving manner. I have a sixteen year old high functioning niece in the Spectrum and I always worry what it will be like for her to experience intimacy issues. This book (while there is no formal diagnosis described in the story ) gave a very healthy description of a that possibility. Well done and patiently waiting for the sequel! New fan of your books!

I Absolutely LOVED IT!!!!

According to the other reviews, this was a fanfic and I had no idea or even if there is something missing from not reading it before...regardless, I absolutely, 100% LOVED this book and am anxiously awaiting the next in the series. The story is about in debt mother Emily, her giraffe obsessed son Henry, and socially awkward billionaire Olivia. The chemistry between all three characters is very easily seen and felt and you instantly fall in love with all of them, faults and all. It's a great starter to what I am seeing to be one of my favorite series. Give it a read, you will not be disappointed.

I particularly appreciate how well she explains Olivia struggle with herself. The author was able to present the struggle in a way that is easy to understand and relatable. Kudos for this. Thank you for portraying this as I'm also often misunderstood by similar reasons that Olivia has. Yo see someone else gets it, make my day.

This in itself set the story in another lvl than typical romance I read but there are many more reasons why I like this book and other readers would just have to read it to find out. One tiny more spoiler, you will see relatable human beings in this book; not the overtly superhuman/victimized characters many other books have successfully overdone.

Seriously, the best lesbian romance I have read so far in 2016. I can't wait for the sequel. You won't regret paying this one. Highly recommended.

About the Author
Dr. Andranovich received his BA from the University of Virginia's College at Wise and then went to George Mason University for his MA.  After working for Prospect Industries (a commercial roofing and waterproofing company) in northern Virginia, he attended the University of California, Riverside, where he received his PhD in political science.  He worked for the US Government Accountability Office (GAO) and COSMOS Corp. in Washington, DC, and has taught at several universities, most recently Washington State University, before coming to CSULA in 1993.  He has served as his Department's Chairperson, and as the Faculty Director of the Students Learning in Communities program at CSULA. He teaches and advises students in the public administration program. He believes that learning is best accomplished through a variety of approaches and typically uses a combination of lecture, discussion, portfolios, and group assignments in his courses.  He regularly teaches American government, urban politics, and public policy courses.  His research interests are in urban and regional policy making, and comparative public administration.
