Roberto Saviano (Napoles, 1979) es autor del bestseller internacional Gomorra (2006), traducido a mas de cincuenta lenguas. En Anagrama publico despues Vente conmigo (2011). Desde 2006 vive con escolta policial a causa de las amenazas de los clanes a los que ha denunciado. Cero cero cero esta contratado ya en dieciocho paises. Su edicion italiana ha tenido un exito extraordinario que ha evocado el de Gomorra. Por su actividad como escritor y por su compromiso civico, le han sido concedidos el Premio Viareggio Opera Prima, el Premio Nazionale Enzo Biagi, el Geschwister-Scholl Preis, el Premio Periodistico de Leipzig, el Premio Manuel Vazquez Montalban, y el European Book Prize. En 2008 diversos galardonados con el Nobel se solidarizaron con Saviano y estuvo en la sede de la Academia de los premios Nobel para pronunciar un discurso sobre la libertad de expresion.

Dinero, Poder y Muerte

Para la mayoría de la población mundial la cocaína es una droga que crea adicción, para los adictos una sustancia necesaria para seguir funcionando y para los gobiernos un quiste incurable que corrompe la sociedad lentamente, les altera los hábitos y los códigos morales. Sin embargo, para la minoría que la produce, trafica y vende este producto no es más que una fuente de riquezas rápida e ilícita, de poder y crueldades necesarias donde todo vale para retener sus feudos. Grupos de narcotraficantes y carteles de la droga, da igual el nombre, de Medellín, de Cali, de Sinaloa, de Juárez o la Mafiya rusa luchan entre sí, contra los gobiernos nacionales, las organizaciones internacionales antidrogas, masacran, torturan, secuestran y aterrorizan a la población por el control de la producción, las rutas de distribución y los mercados de consumo, se alían, se traicionan, pactan y sobornan autoridades civiles y militares, entrenan o alquilan ejércitos privados y sicarios para eliminar la competencia o a los detractores, todo en nombre del Oro Blanco. Para el funcionamiento de sus estructuras tienen contables, empresas tapaderas y bancos para el blanqueo del dinero, políticos corruptos que legislan leyes ambiguas por donde se escurre el dinero negro que entra oliendo a coca, sangre y muerte y sale inmaculado y legalmente blanqueado. Un negocio rentable, peligroso, variable y voluble a escala planetaria que no entiende de raza, credo o estratos sociales, solo de oferta y demanda, consumidos y ganancias, siempre ganancias.
Libro de investigación que de una forma fría, clara, cínica, cruel y directa comienza adentrándose en los orígenes del comercio de la cocaína, nombra uno a uno los carteles, los capos más famosos, sus métodos represivos, sus fuentes, mercados y el complicado entramado estilo hidra-hiedra en el que por más que se le corte una ruta, se aprese a un mafioso o se encaute un cargamentos siempre hay dos o tres esperando para llenar el vacío dejado por los otros. Una lectura que no deja indiferente al lector por su contenido realista, las consecuencias y la terrible realidad que representa la coca: adicción, riqueza, poder y muerte.

Interesitng book

Roberto Saviano is a great writer. He is a good researcher and journalist but overwhelmingly very fearless of the threats from organized crime.
This book is quite illustrative of this topic around the world.
The only non positive comment is about the English edition which is only available in Kindle format. It would be better to edit it in paperback as well.
